Sekelompok pelajar di Merauke, Papua mengatakan mendapatkan pelajaran berharga saat bertemu dengan anak-anak panti asuhan Santo Vincentius yang dikelola oleh misioner Bhakti Luhur.

“Kita orang normal, tapi terkadang kita mengeluh akan sesuatu yang tidak kita miliki. Yang sebenarnya tidak kita miliki adalah hati untuk selalu mencintai orang lain, dan bersyukur atas segala sesuatu,” kata Ana Yuliana Korewo Nautje, koordinator kelompok tersebut, kepada UCA News.

Dalam kunjungan tanggal 4 April itu para siswa dari sekolah negeri di Merauke tersebut menghibur anak-anak dengan berbagai kegiatan termasuk menyanyikan lagu popular “Jangan Menyerah”.

“Mereka memang pantang menyerah. Mereka tampak begitu bahagia dan tertawa bahagia,” kata gadis berusia 17 tahun tersebut.

Kunjungan tersebut terinspirasi oleh tema paskah “Kesejatian Hidup Dalam Keluarga” yang dicanangkan Keuskupan Agung Merauke.

Mereka membawa serta dua kardus mie instan, 35kg beras, telur dan berbagai bumbu dapur.

Sementara itu Suster Florensi N. Hokeng, kepala biara Bhakti Luhur wilayah Merauke mengatakan kunjungan para siswa tersebut sangat menghibur. “Saat kami penat dan menghadapi masalah mereka datang untuk menghibur,” katanya kepada UCA News.

Saat ini Panti Asuhan Anak Cacat Santo Vincentius dihuni oleh 10 anak berusia 1-15 tahun. Kebanyakan dari mereka ditinggal oleh keluarga.

Selama berkunjung, para pelajar didampingi oleh Pastor Apolinaris Miller Senduk MSC, pastor moderator keluarga mahasiswa Keuskupan Agung Merauke.

“Kami sadar ada banyak sekali orang berkekurangan di sekitar kita. Apa yang dilakukan para pelajar ini bertujuan untuk mempertajam hati mereka akan kebutuhan sesama,” kata Pastor Apolinarius. UCA News

Secondary School Students Have Got Inspiration out of Handicapped Children

Sister Florensi was teaching one of the girls in the St. Vincentius Orphanage about how to paint an Easter Egg.

A group of students in Merauke, Papua, said that they had got a valuable lesson from their meeting with the children from the St. Vincentius Orphanage which was run by missionaries of Bhakti Luhur.

“We are normal people, however sometimes we complain about something that we do not have. While what we do not have actually is the heart that always loves other people, and always be thankful for everything that we have,” said Ana Yuliana Korewo Nautje, the coordinator of that group, to UCA News.

In their visit on 4th of April, those students from the state school in Merauke entertained the children with various activities including singing a popular song “Jangan Menyerah” (Never give up).

“Indeed they never give up. They look very happy and laugh happily,” said the 17 years old girl.

That visit was inspired by the Easter theme “The True Life in Family” which was declared by the Bishop in Merauke.

They brought with them two boxes of instant noodle, 35 kgs of rice, eggs and various spices.

Meanwhile, Sister Florensi N. Hokeng, the head of the Bhakti Luhur convent for Merauke area, said that the visit by those students was really entertaining. “At the time when we feel tired facing problems they come to make us happy,” she said to UCA News.

At present St Vincentius Orphanage for the Handicapped Children was occupied by 10 children of 1 – 15 years old. Most of them were left by their family.

During their visit, the students were accompanied by Pastor Apolinaris Miller Senduk MSC, the moderator pastor in the undergraduates family in the Merauke diocese.

“We are aware that there are still a lot of people who suffers around us. What the students have done is aimed at sharpening their heart to the needs of their brothers.” said Pastor Apolinarius. UCA News.
