Regina Bulu Pati is the daughter of Adam Lubuk and Agnes Somi; she was born in Lewopulo sub-district of Withihama, Adonara, on February 24, 2005
Regina Bulu Pati is always called Regina, the 4th child of four children. Her three older siblings are normal, while Regina has congenital vision/sight impairment.
Regina began to join in the inclusive educational program run by Bhakti Luhur in Larantuka – Adonara through socialization held at the services in the church, socialization by the religious leaders, community leaders and school teachers in the sub-district of Withihama. Information about Regina who has special needs was told by a teacher who lived near Regina’s home to the priest who held a service at the area where Regina lived. After approaching the family and told them about the importance of education for Regina, eventually the parents allowed Regina to live at the Rehabilitation (Command) Post of Adonara for inclusion preparation training in “reading, writing and arithmetic in Braille”.
On December 14, 2010 with a friend with the same case, Mekavani Rianghepat, Regina got training in 3M (reading, writing and arithmetic) in Braille given by Bhakti Luhur Field workers. At first, when Regina was admitted to the command post she had difficulty in socializing and adapting to the new environment. Almost every day she cried and asked to go home. The shy Regina has, in fact, reliable artistic talent. In addition to learning the 3 M and orientation-mobility at the (rehabilitation) post from the inclusion workers, Regina was involved in the performing art together at the farewell party of the Catholic kindergarten pupils; she also song solo at the celebration of the Governor of Nusa Tenggara Timur’s birthday held in Larantuka.
Besides following the learning activities at the Command Post, Regina also follows the Catholic Faith Fostering diligently at the church.
Up to the present, Regina gains the following results: In mobility-orientation she has mastered/has been familiar with the environment where she lives that she’s able to help the workers to bring something to a neighbor without assistance. In the field of language, Regina is already able to read and write in Braille well, even to take dictation with long sentences without difficulty. She also made very good development in arithmetic. Regina is able to write numbers 1-100 using Braille, able to do simple addition.
In the new school year in July 2012, we plan to admit Regina to the Elementary School I where up to now there are teacher’s assistants for the children who have learning difficulty at the school.
Regina can be incorporated into the public school but are constrained primary schools in the city Larantuka can not accept because they are not ready. The way out is taken on refer to the Bhakti Luhur the elementary school, in Malang because this is inclusive schools which accept all children with special needs are capable learners.
